What are differin gel and what is it used for? Differin Gel is a prescription acne medication that comes in two different forms. It is a topical cream that you can use on your face or neck or you can also take a pill form of Differin. To learn more about the product click on the link below.
What is differin gel used for? Like Retin A Differin is used to kill the bacteria P. Acnes in the skin pores. The way this works is that Differin is able to penetrate the outer layer of the skin and reach the pore where the bacteria reside. There it disrupts the membranes in the pore so that the bacteria cannot survive. Once it gets into the pore it causes redness and peeling. The redness will go away when the medication has worn off, but it could take as long as a week or two depending on the severity of your acne.
How to use differin gel? First, be sure that you are not allergic to it. If you have any allergies be sure to let your doctor know about them. The medication will not work if you have any adverse reactions. When applying the differin cream to your skin follow these instructions.
Before using differin gel you will want to gently exfoliate your skin with an Aveda Pure Natural Vitamin Peel or other gentle exfoliating soap. Next you will want to prepare your face or neck for the differin gel. Make sure that you have a clean, soft sponge that is not oilier than your skin. You will also want to have clean water that is cool or lukewarm. Mix one tablespoon of glycolic acid with a small amount of tap water.
Apply the differin gel to the affected area. The cream should be spread evenly. Do not put the cream directly on the pimples because it can soak into the skin and cause inflammation. Also, be sure to allow the cream to dry before applying it to the rest of your face.
Many people who have severe acne problems turn to over-the-counter retinoid adapalene solutions. Retinoids are available without a prescription. They come in the form of creams, lotions and gels. These types of treatments may produce results in a matter of weeks, but they can be more expensive than Differin.
If you are looking for a treatment for severe acne or cystic acne, consider differin gel. Differin gel works by providing a thick protective coating that keeps the pimple from drying out and scabbing. It is often applied topically to reduce oil build up and redness. Because it contains adapalene, the ingredient that creates the appearance of a rash, you should always start new pimple medication with a new cleanser and moisturizer. It can take several weeks for the effects of adapalene to become noticeable.
Before you decide to use differin gel, talk to your doctor or dermatologist about possible side effects. Differin should not be used in combination with any medications that thin the blood, such as birth control pills or antibiotics. If you experience any side effects, stop using the medication immediately and contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice. Some patients experience slight stomach cramps, diarrhea, or dizziness when using differin gel.
One of the more common side effects of the medication is an allergic reaction to one of the active ingredients. Since the redness caused by differin is also caused by irritation of the skin, an allergy to the ingredient could result in a reddening of the skin accompanied by inflammation. This is not usually a problem unless you have a pre-existing skin condition or an existing rash.
As with any topical medication, you should avoid using differin gel if you have an allergy to adapalene. The ingredient is considered relatively safe when used as directed. However, if you have an allergy to adapalene, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting any topical use. Adapalene may irritate the eye and can cause temporary blurred vision in some people. Avoid use during pregnancy and while breast feeding.
When used as directed, the medication will help reduce the redness of your skin and reduce the appearance of acne scars. Within a few weeks of beginning treatment, you will see visible results. Typically, you will begin to see differences in one to two weeks. While redness can remain for up to six months on some patients, it generally goes away after a year. For best results, talk to your dermatologist about ways to maintain effective skin cell turnover and improve your complexion.
